When mom needs a Getaway
There has forever been a debate on whether mums should slip away for a few days to recuperate and rejuvenate leaving the kids behind.
As mums we often find ourselves overwhelmed if not physically overcome with all that we have-to do at least mentally we’re constantly having our minds on the children (sometimes even when we’re sleeping).
Some have strong views against this with comments like “Why become a mother if you want to leave the kids?” And “how can you even think of abandoning your children, how can you have fun without them?”.
Well all we can say is to each their own.
However after a much needed break from our kids recently we would strongly recommend a quick Getaway.
Whether you choose to travel with your spouse, girlfriends, couple friends or even your parents, it’s essential that you take this time off at least once a year or two years. In our opinion it helps us to be better mums and gives the children that small amount of independence that they will so need when they grow up.
Plus you need time to find out who you were before you were tagged a “Mother”. You need time to bond with your husband if you’ve been neglecting your wife duties (and he hs been neglecting his husband duties too)! You need that time to rest, sleep and empty your brains so you have some space to think about other things like maybe your work or starting a new venture if you haven’t already.
Of course we have to write this with a disclaimer where we clearly state that this trip would only be possible if you have those amazing secondary caregivers back home like helpful, trustworthy staff or completely hands on grandparents.
So take that step you know you so badly and desperately need. It’s never too late or too early. It’s your Motherhood journey and you make the rules.
