The “Us” Time- Life With Kabir (Namrata Aka Nimmy)

I am a mom of a 6 year old and this is one of our growing up experiences, which I suppose many come across in their respective lives with their children.

We shared an amazing rapport when my son was in playschool of chat sessions between us, either while he ate his meals or while he was in the shower. I got to know all the little things my boy was doing and discovering everyday at school. Then he started Big School which was full day and I saw my baby only in the evenings where he had a lot of things he wanted to do in the 4 hours that he had at home before bedtime and somewhere in that mayhem I lost my connect with my child. My question, “HOW WAS UR DAY?” was replied with a “FINE” & “GOOD” and my ‘I MISSED YOU ‘was replied with a ‘AHEM’.

At meal times and bedtimes we were only discussing studies. One night lying beside him I realized we were in a “RAT RACE” ALREADY IN GRADE 1 at 6yrs of age. Was this needed? The realization got me to introspect where we were going.

YES I AGREE that the we all need to push our kids to study in this competitive world but we can maintain a LITTLE ‘US TIME’ BECAUSE U DON’T KNOW IF YOU WILL HAVE THAT TIME WHEN THEY BECOME TEENAGERS AND ARE SO OCCUPIED IN THEIR OWN WORLD AND THEN THE GROWING UP YEARS AND CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ARE ALWAYS THE BEST FOR PARENTS TO CHERISH.

MOMMIES & DADDIES lets make the US TIME a ritual with our kids, it can be a chat when u are driving somewhere together or maybe a tucking in bed chat instead of a story on some days we had this chat while he was on the pot in the morning, LOL. You will realize the simple joys of hearing silly naughty happenings from your child. Lets follow this pattern of a casual chat with these points thrown in for a MASALA FILLED FUNNY GOSSIP SESSION WITH YOUR CHILD. By following this not only are you a part of your child’s growing up school years but you also get to know the joys, fears and characteristics of your child and of kids who are with your child in the daily walk of school life.

1.Tell me the funny boy/girl in the class today.
2.Who was the naughty one OR who got to be the monitor?
3.Who ate whose snack box during snacks and lunch breaks?
4.Whose tiffin items seem to be the most wanted one by you?
5.Is your desk partner your friend or is he/she a nosy one, who wants to meddle into your books, crafts and worksheets?
6.What new fun things did the older kids teach you today in the bus (MIND YOU A LOT OF GENERAL KNOWLEDGE WHICH IS GOOD, BAD AND SOMETIMES SCARY FOR THE PARENTS IS TAUGHT BY OLDER KIDS TO THE YOUNG ONES WHO ARE IN AWE OF THEM).
7.Do you like your classmates and your teachers? Which one is your favorite and which one is the least interesting?
8.How do u like your school and which part of school you love visiting: the park, music room, library ,art class, play & activity room?
9.Do you feel safe in school and in the bus? Does school and bus didi make you feel good and secure? Does your school security staff interact with you all?
10.Do you use the washroom in school? (Mine still does not in spite of being in school for 8 hours as he is not comfortable going alone). He did use till he was in baby school as a didi accompanied him and waited outside the bathroom in the washroom area, big school has male attendants in boys bathroom and he does not like that.
11.Is there a Bully in your class or your standard foyer or school playground, washroom, bus? Do you want to tell me or dad about him/her?
12.Do you like playing in the school park during your break or are the older kids being rowdy and not letting the smaller ones have a good time?(YES THIS HAPPENED IN OUR CASE AND BECAUSE MY LITTLE ONE SHARED IT WITH ME I COULD TALK TO THE CO-ORDINATOR AND SETTLE THE ISSUES)

Remove the time and make a US TIME FULL OF GOSSIP, JOKES, SCHOOL HAPPENINGS before the years roll by parents .I’m growing up again with my little one through his school & bus journeys and its fun plus also keeps me up to date about my child’s daily school days.
